QR code generator

GeneratorsNo. 52 / 84

Turn any URL or text into a QR code and download it as PNG or SVG. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

most-used utilities

A link for a poster

512 px, ECC M and the default black on white. Download the SVG if it will be printed large.

A code for a screen

256 px is enough for a phone to scan from a laptop screen, and it keeps the file small.

A code that has to survive

Raise the correction to Q or H when the code will sit on a surface that gets scratched or printed badly.

pro tips

Dark modules on a light background scan best. Inverted QR codes look clever and fail on plenty of phones.

Leave the white margin alone. Cropping a QR code tight to the edge is the fastest way to make it unreadable.

If a long URL will not fit at ECC H, lower the correction to M before you start shortening the link.

what it does

A QR code is a square barcode that a phone camera can read. Type a URL, a line of text, a phone number or a WiFi password, and this page turns it into a pattern of black and white modules. There is no account, no upload and no shortener in the middle.

The version here is a static QR: the data lives in the pattern itself, so it never expires and it cannot be switched off by whoever made it. That is the opposite of the "dynamic" QR codes used in marketing, where the square points to a short URL and the destination can be changed later. Static is the honest version, and it is the one you want for a menu, a poster or a link you intend to keep.

Two settings do most of the work. The error-correction level (L, M, Q, H) decides how much of the code can be damaged before a scanner gives up: higher is more robust but fits less text. The size is just the image you download — 256 px for a screen, 512 px for print, 1024 px if it will be enlarged. Keep the dark modules dark and the quiet zone around the edge empty; a QR code squeezed against a busy background is a QR code that will not scan.

Type, adjust the colours, then download a PNG for normal use or an SVG if you need it to scale without blurring. The preview updates as you type, and everything is generated locally with the qrcode-generator library bundled into the page.

quick answers

Do these QR codes expire?

No. The data is encoded directly into the pattern, so there is no redirect to expire. The code works for as long as the image exists.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The QR is generated in your browser by a bundled library; the page makes no request with your content.

Can I use the QR code commercially?

Yes. You generated it, and a static QR code is not tied to a service or an account. Print it, put it on a menu, ship it.

Why will my QR code not scan?

Usually too little contrast, a cropped quiet zone, or a code printed too small. Try a larger download and keep the white border.
