most-used utilities

Passport form

The form wants your age on the application date, not today. Set the date and copy the exact line.

Day-count milestone

Find the day you turn 10,000 days old, then plan something better than a screenshot of a spreadsheet.

New job paperwork

Work out your age on the start date before HR asks and saves you the arithmetic.

pro tips

If a form asks for your age on a specific day, set the as-of date first. Typing today's age into a form about last year is how paperwork gets returned.

Total days is the number to use for streaks and milestones. Years and months are for humans; days are for spreadsheets.

A birthday on February 29 gets its countdown on February 28 in common years. It is the least controversial compromise the calendar offers.

what it does

Pick the day someone was born and the widget answers with the full calendar difference: years first, then the leftover months, then the leftover days. Below that it shows the same life in total days, total weeks and whole months, plus the date and the wait until the next birthday.

The as-of date is the part most age calculators forget. It defaults to today, but change it and the answer freezes at that moment, which is useful for a form that asks how old you were on a deadline, a lease start or the first day of a job. Press today to snap it back.

Months are not thirty days, so the widget borrows from real month lengths. Someone born on January 31 is one month old on February 29 in a leap year, and the count keeps working from there. That is why the month and day figures can look different from a rough division by 30.

Leap days and future dates get a straight answer. A February 29 birthday is treated as February 28 in common years for the countdown, and a birth date later than the as-of date is flagged instead of producing a polite negative age.

quick answers

Why does the month count not match a simple division?

Because months have different lengths. The widget counts completed months with real month ends, then adds the remaining days, instead of pretending every month is thirty days long.

Is the day of birth counted as a day of age?

No. Age starts at zero on the day someone is born and gains its first day at the next midnight, which is why a newborn is zero days old. The total days figure uses the same rule.

Does a birth time change the answer?

Not here. The calculator works with calendar dates only, so a birth at 23:59 and one at 00:01 on the same day produce the same age. Paperwork rarely asks for the minutes anyway.
