most-used utilities
Class scores
Paste a set of exam marks and see whether one high score is carrying the average or the whole class did well.
Salary check
Compare a list of offers with the median, which is the figure a mean salary discussion usually avoids.
Survey answers
Tally a rating scale and find the most common answer, plus the count that gives it weight.
pro tips
When the mean and median disagree by a lot, look at the maximum. One outlier can move the mean and barely touch the median.
Mode is most useful with repeated values such as shoe sizes or star ratings. With continuous measurements it often comes back empty, and that is not a malfunction.
Keep an eye on the count. A mean of four numbers and a mean of four hundred deserve different amounts of confidence.
what it does
Paste numbers separated by commas, spaces or newlines and the answer appears without a single click. The big figure is the mean, and the row underneath carries the median, the mode, the count, the sum and both ends of the range.
The mean adds everything and divides by the count. The median sorts the list and takes the middle, which is why one mansion on a street of bungalows drags the mean upward and leaves the median standing. The mode is whatever value shows up most often.
When every number appears once, the widget says no mode instead of inventing one. Ties are allowed and all winning values are listed, because a list can have two popular answers without breaking arithmetic.
Text, empty cells and half-typed values are skipped, and the hint tells you how many tokens were ignored. The count is always on screen so a mean of six numbers never gets mistaken for the result of a serious survey.
quick answers
What if two numbers tie for the mode?
Both are modes. The widget lists every value that shares the highest count, separated by commas, and the count confirms how often each one appears.
Why does it say no mode?
Because every value appears exactly once. A mode needs a repeat, so the honest answer is that the list does not have one.
Are negative numbers and decimals allowed?
Yes. Negative values, decimals and signs are all counted, while words and stray punctuation are ignored and reported in the hint.
